High-Street Retailer Poundland to Close Stores Across Britain

A popular high-street retailer is set to close a number of its stores across Britain after narrowly avoiding collapse.

On Tuesday, Poundland received court approval for a major restructuring plan. The company had warned that without this plan, it would have run out of money by September 7, as revealed by barristers in court.

In June, the discount retail chain announced plans to permanently close 68 stores following its sale by Pepco Group to Peach Bidco, a subsidiary of private equity firm Gordon Brothers, for £1.

Poundland has now confirmed it will shut down an additional 16 stores, though the exact locations have not yet been disclosed. The closure dates for these stores are expected to be announced later in the year, with affected employees being informed at that time.
